The SpectraMax i3x has added versatility by adding cartridges. The AlphaLISA capability is added through an AlphaScreen detection cartridge. The cartridge contains the dedicated optics and excitation source needed for Alpha technology; it is not just a software unlock. Molecular Devices states that each detection cartridge contains the light source, optics, and electronics required for that read mode, and SoftMax Pro automatically recognizes the cartridge when installed.
